Born and raised in Shanghai, Zhao Hai Tien left China in the 1960s to study painting at Cooper Union in New York.

Inspired and leaping into the New York art scene, it is here that Hai Tien began experimenting with abstraction.

50 years later her career features works in airbrush on glass, acrylic on canvas, experiments in calligraphy, large public installations and numerous works in oil. From enormous, larger-than-life paintings, to smaller pieces from her travels, Hai Tien has never stopped working. Her dedication to Buddhism and her infatuation with quantum physics play a significant role in Hai Tien’s work as she continues to explore and express spirituality and the essence of our existence through painting.
